Health and Safety - Plumbers Need to Take it Seriously

By Tal Potishman

Plumbing is not an easy job. There is more to plumbing than simply snaking pipes or unclogging a simple drain. Plumbers work with all sorts of tools and materials in both safe and unsafe conditions to make sure that the pipes in the United Kingdom work the way they are supposed to work. Safety is of the utmost importance for Plumbers and the Plumbers in the United Kingdom need to make sure that they are taking every precaution possible to protect themselves and the members of their teams.

Plumbers are regularly exposed to a lot of different infections and illnesses every day. Psittacosis and Histoplasmosis can be contracted through the regular contact that plumbers have with human and animal droppings. They are also exposed to lead and a host of other harmful elements on a regular basis via the solvents and other materials that are used regularly.

Plumbers also have to regularly deal with tight spaces. They will be forced to move or position themselves in ways that are not pleasant and that can strain the skeletal and muscular system. Plumbers also have to regularly work in extremely high elevations and for very long hours.

These harsh working conditions would be hard for anyone. Plumbers need to make sure that they take all of the precautions they can take to remain uninjured, healthy and safe.

1. Local safety codes should be memorized. Plumbers should know their local safety codes inside out to ensure that they will understand exactly what kind of safety precautions should be taken in the variety of situations that the plumber will encounter while on the job.

2. Plumbers should always have a durable and long lasting ventilation system ready for any job. Having clean air in ready supply can make many tougher jobs go much more smoothly and will cut down on the risk to the plumbers considerably.

3. Plumbers should always wear the appropriate clothing: hats, boots, masks, goggles, etc. These items help to protect the Plumber's body in conditions that would be very harmful.

4. The work area should always be clean and free of trash and clutter. The cleaner and less clutter there is in a Plumbers' work area, the better able a plumber will be to make sure that his job goes as smoothly as possible.

5. Plumbers should take breaks to rest their bodies. Keeping their bodies rested and healthy will make sure that they are better able to cope with longer projects. - 15790
