The Gypsy Nomads Concert at The Magic Candle

By Sive Iver

On April 2, 2009 there will be a Gypsy Nomads concert at The Magic Candle and the concert will start 7:00 P.M. The Magic Candle is at 204 S., Audabon St. at the heart of Irvington. You will not have a hard time looking for the venue.

At the concert you will not be hearing the gypsy music because this is not the type of music the Gypsy Nomads play. Rather the type of music they play are a rather hybridized version of the gypsy music that is combined with a cabaret, celtic and neo-medieval flavor where the base or foundation of the music come from punk, folk and the vineyards of southern France.

The band or group is composed of two French born artists. Samantha Stephenson is a veteran of the punk era and she is an artist and a dancer. Samantha does the vocals, percussion, drums and is the songwriter of the group. The other member is Scott Helland that does the guitar, drums, and loops. When these two perform on stage you will experience the free spirited lifestyle of the gypsy. It has even been said that their performance is high octane and exciting

The Gypsy Nomads have traveled around US all year long; they have performed in festivals, clubs, theaters, conventions, galleries, cafes and house concerts. There wonderful combination of guitar and percussion instruments has sung their songs in English and French.

The Gypsy Nomads does not limit their song to concerts and festivals only but their music has also been featured in films like Rider. Their music has also been licensed by We TV Network and Harpo production. They have sold out CD reflecting their music when they perform on stage. With all their accomplishments it just shows how we love their music. - 15790
