Do You Have Repossessions On Your Credit Report?

By Kevin Potter

Recently the car manufacturers have been giving out a great incentive. You may have seen the commercials where they offer to make your payments in the event that you lose your job. This is obviously an attempt to revive their own business and pump up the current economy but this is unprecedented. Nothing like this has ever been offered before and it is not likely to stick around too long especially when the economy recovers and we all hope that it does.

In the past, if you lost your job and you were not able to make your payments you were out of luck and your car would be repossessed. Many people have gone through the difficult experience of having a car repossessed. One of the most unfortunate things that follows a repossession is the fact that the negative credit can remain on your credit report for as long as 7 years and it can prevent you from getting financing on everything from another car loan to a home mortgage.

However difficult it may be contend with a negative repossession on your credit report, the fact is that you can have it deleted. Repossessions are removed from credit reports all the time. Using credit bureau disputes and creditor negotiations you may be able to improve the status of the repossession or even have it removed completely.

You can do all of the work to repair your credit and get repossessions removed on your own or you can hire a professional credit repair company. Either way you will likely have to contact the original creditor and negotiate with them to determine if they may be willing to remove the account or report it as "paid in full" upon payment or partial payment of any money owed. If the repossession is showing on your account but it is inaccurate you will only need to dispute directly with the credit bureaus. After they receive your dispute it is up to them to verify the accuracy with the creditor.

You need not wait to try to repair your credit because negative credit is deleted from reports all the time. This includes negative credit such as repossessions, collection accounts, even bankruptcies and tax liens. Not many people make through their whole lives without having a few difficulties and that includes financial challenges. It is just a part of life. If you can clean up your credit you can start all over again and life will be easier.

A fresh start on your financial future is available to you as soon as you get your credit repaired. Financing on cars, houses and more will be accessible to you again and that is good news for you and for the economy. After you repair your credit it is important that you try to keep it that way though so be careful with your use of credit and pay cash if you can.

The unprecedented offer of helping you make your car payments by the car manufacturers will not continue. It is a short-term fix for a current challenge and hopefully the economy will recover so that such offers become obsolete again. The best way you can help yourself is to repair your credit and keep it good for the future by living within your means.

You can get negative marks including repossessions removed from your credit reports with some knowledge and some time. Just do your best to repair the credit you have and avoid any future credit problems. - 15790
